Summer is here. And like you, I’m planning a few trips. All by air. This year, I’m trying to minimize the amount of stress these trips have caused me in the past: losing my luggage, being stuck in the last row of the plane and running out of power on my phone. And I’m in luck because there are devices and apps to help make my travels smoother.
Here are a few of my choices to help you travel stress-free this summer.
1. Get help picking your seat
You don’t want to worry about where you’re sitting on the plane, especially if you’re traveling with your family. The app SeatGuru can help you be informed when picking your plane seat. There are seating map images, ratings of seat comfort and the Guru Advice section has a detailed how-to on choosing the best seat on your flight.
2. Keep track of your travel info
GateGuru helps get you through the airport and to your flight. Stress-free. You type in your itineraries and the app keeps you updated on gate assignments and departure times. Using maps of the terminals, GateGuru shows you where the restaurants and restrooms are as well as other airport amenities. You can use the app to manage both your current and future trip itineraries.
3. Make sure you have enough power
You don’t want to have one of your mobile devices running out of power while you’re stuck out in the middle of the Grand Canyon. Or any where else for that matter. So bring a back-up. Mophie makes a variety of portable chargers for your devices including the Powerstation Duo ($99.95) which allows you to charge two USB devices at once.
4. Track your luggage
Losing your luggage is the last thing you want to happen while flying. With Trakdot, you place a palm-sized battery-operated device in your suitcase that sends information, via cell phone technology, to your phone. The device automatically goes in to airplane mode when the plane accelerates and turns back on when you land. The service requires payment of an annual fee.
5. Keep gadgets safe and dry
You don’t want to worry about your expensive phones, cameras or tablets getting blasted by the sun or rain. And you definitely don’t want to stress out about any of your devices getting wet at the beach or on that whitewater rafting trip. Luckily, there are some amazing products that protect your devices. Check out Dry Case’s waterproof phone cases or Lifeproof’s cases for your iPad or other tablet devices.
